SETTING UP MEMBER LOGIN ISSUE:
Having an issue setting up your login after receiving a reset password link? If you reset your password and you try to login and get this message "This account already exists" make sure you clicked on Already a Member Login and NOT Sign-up. The site doesn't make it intuitive to see the difference. If you are still having issues please fill out contact form below or click on Let's Chat and we'll happily walk you through the setup. Note: It might take a day or so to get back to you, as we may be in the woods without cell service, but don't worry we will respond when we can.
Safety and Forest Guidelines
Your safety is our priority at Coastal Shores and Spores Mycological Society. Joining a club is a great first step to learning how to identify and safely forage for mushrooms.
Mushroom Identification:
When it comes to wild mushrooms identification is an important process to assuring that you do not consume a poisonous look-alike. There are many books and online resources to help with identification, but the best way to learn is through hands on experience and talking to other experienced mushroom hunters and mycologists. Although AI can help with an initial ID, we do not recommend using this as your main source of identification. AI identification sources have been proven to be wrong. If you aren't sure about a mushroom, instead of picking it, take photos of it from all angles, including top, gills, stem and the environment it is growing in. Bring your photo to our next club meeting or send us a message with the photos. We can't guarantee we can identify everything, but we will definitely do our best.
Foray Safety
Prior to any foray you will be required to sign a waiver and follow any safety instructions provided by the club. The foray leaders at their discretion may remove any member that is putting themselves or others at risk.
Forest Regulations:
Every forest has its own rules and regulations that need tobe followed. Here is a PDF with some general guidelines for Washington state Forests. Note: These guidelines may have changed since they were published in 2016 and so it's up to you look-up the information and know the rules of the forests you are visiting and foraging in.
